Born 2117.
Narjack Simms was born on Earth a decade before the dawn of the interstellar space age.
Narjack graduated from the prestigious Elysium University (22 YO) with degrees in political science, mass communications, and theology.
He took a post as an earthbound reporter in the Eurasian Press Corp championing worker’s rights and opposing corporate consolidation.
He took leave of the press corps in 2144 and went free-lance.
Prominently syndicated, he covered the turmoil that escalated into the 1st Corporate Wars and the Starguild Conventions that ended the wars.
Narjack began looking for an idyllic solution somewhere within the bounds of the Starguild.
Narjack focused on attacking negative elements within the budding Starguild.
His run-ins with Neemis Enterprises made him a household name.
To Narjack, Neemis Enterprises was a disgrace, and its popular show Brutal-Vision, a threat to Starguild stability.
By late 2151, Narjack’s campaign to shutdown Neemis Enterprises entertainment cash-cow was gaining traction.
Neemis Enterprises uncharacteristically decided to reform its image and making peace with Narjack was an appropriate first step: a round of golf at the exclusive Heisson Athletics Club to break the ice.
This ended in the infamous back-nine brawl between Narjack’s entourage and Neemis Enterprises executives.
The scuffle left Narjack paralyzed and out of action.
The public was outraged.
Neemis Enterprises gave up placating the Starguild.
Tensions escalated culminating in Neemis Enterprises attacking the Starguild Council on Earth.
Neemis Enterprises was declared Derelict (excommunicated exile) and the Imperium was created to hunt down and eliminate the rogue enterprise.
But assembling the Imperium from a military tithe took time.
Neemis Enterprises interpreted this lull as Starguild capitulation.
Neemis Enterprises offered to cure Narjack.
Narjack knew Neemis Enterprises had unique technology and had nothing to lose.
All Narjack had to do was rendezvous with the Neemis Enterprises mothership for remote medical surgery.
The Imperium became aware of this meeting and laid ambush.
Neemis Enterprises fleet was shattered by the newly created Imperium in a decisive battle in the Alenx system.
The Imperial fleet rescued Narjack from the battlefield.
Narjack refused to comment.
Some Council members declared Narjack traitor, but Narjack was still paralyzed having gained nothing from the ordeal, and he still had rabid fans throughout the Guild.
Unwilling to taint their victory, the Council released Narjack who retreated into the background.
Neemis Enterprises treatment had initiated slow neural growth that would take years to regenerate.
2156, the Starguild Conventions were modified to a full caste system: Starcaste, Landcaste, Bondsman.
Narjack was outraged by this mandate.
Having won a heroic, years long struggle against paralysis, he returned to the spotlight with the intent to fight the caste system.
Formation of the Galactic Press:
Starguild Council confiscated Neemis Enterprises home system, Croist, an intentionally austere system with Spartan accommodations.
But Croist had state-of-the-art communications tied into every Starguild hub.
Croist was awarded to the news outlet founded by Narjack.
This elevated Narjack’s operation to a trans-guild scale and he launched the Galactic Press.
The prospect of being ceded Croist kept Narjack on the sidelines at the critical time he might have rallied public sentiment and repealed the caste system.
Narjack accepted tyranny when it served his purpose, determined to rectify problems later.
He conveniently waited until fighting the caste system was a lost cause.
The Galactic Press became a powerful, independent news agency that reached across the Starguild.
Narjack was the venerated Starguild celebrity who made Galactic Press a sensation: three-time recipient of the Heisson Award for Journalism, the coveted Starguild Peace Award, and longtime champion of Bondsman rights.
Jonathan Hryken’s exodus from the Starguild shook Narjack (2175).
Circa 2180, hundreds of people a year were going missing from around the Starguild.
Rumor was they were defecting to a rebel fleet beyond the frontier.
Late 2180s, rebel starforces were openly attacking Starguild assets.
Narjack realized the battle against the Starguild was well underway without him.
When suppressing news of rebel activity and defections became a Guild priority, Narjack towed the line.
Galactic Press focused on other topics.
2190, Eldan Abon-Kar’s intelligence network was at last cracked.
Destruction of the Abon-Kar Household and apex corporate institution followed.
Narjack viewed this as a decisive blow to the rebel faction and was certain the rebels would lose their battle against the Starguild.
2193, Narjack planned an impulsive media tour of the New Eden Trunk Line.
Rousing himself, the grizzled veteran was on the move again.
2194, Narjack left Earth making his way along the New Eden trunk line.
His entourage included all the trappings of a primetime news crew (1 tricore, 1 colony-liner type 40 with 2 star-pigeon comm relays).
This entourage will stop on New Eden to complete a series titled “Where did it all go wrong?”
