The wealth and power of the starfaring corporations rapidly expanded.

They controlled star technologies, without which, rivals remained earthbound.

The starfaring corporations secured supremacy by moving critical star technologies, including power plant fuel replenishment, to the colonies.

This left Earth with little to no control over the colonies or starfaring corporations.

Terrestrial governments could seize starfaring earthbound assets, but they had no way to exert power off-world.

It became obvious, the only way to secure a future was to control advanced technology.

This reality sparked conflict as factions, both colonial and terrestrial, fought to secure technology.

The 1st Corporate Wars saw unrestricted conflict: the widespread use of explosives, artillery leveling city sectors, and grav gunships wiping away colonies.

Inevitable escalation led to the use of weapons of mass destruction and reciprocal retaliation.

Happenstance, rather than reason, halted the expanding exchange long enough for soldiers in the field to defy orders and stand down.

A terrified humanity sought any authority that could eliminate total war.
