====== Lance ====== [[:l1:organizations:Seven Worlds]] name for the [[Dragonstar]] targeting system used to position the [[mirror field]] and tailor the active 'porting volume within. ===== Lance Recon Capability ===== Lance recon is more powerful than its teleporting capabilities and is a closely guarded secret. Normally only computer rendered images leave the [[:l1:technology:Dragonstar Vault]]. Rendered images make items look "normal" to hide DTS internal imaging capabilities. Dragonstar Hardware Vault (DHV) is a secured area where Dragonstar Targeting System (DTS aka Lance) hardware resides. Tech Security Officer (TSO) in charge of the Vault. TSO decides what images can leave the Vault and who can review them. Even the Strikerail commanding officers ask permission from the Tech Security Office to enter the Vault. ===== Limitations ===== Lance provides porting coordinates within Lance "range". A Lance operator defines the active volume within the full active porting dodecahedron volume. Lance penetration is limited by intervening matter including atmosphere). This constrains 'porting "depth" unless supported by a [[:l1:technology:Dragonstar Shard]]. A Ground team carrying a Shard allows the Lance to image an area up to 14m around the Shard. ===== Lance Threats ===== DTS recon and ability to port inside objects is an extremely powerful tool. For example, DTS recon enables or allows sabotage or latent damage to circuitry, etc. Seven Worlds does not blatantly use Dragonstar capability, saving these tools for critical escalation instead. Seven Worlds does not want to tip off the Starguild on powerful and subtle capabilities. Instead, direct ground team insertion provides a high profile, simple threat easily absorbed by the public. Threat of 'porting explosives is obvious and a powerful political tool. ===== The Light of Eden Spoilers ===== Even Duncan asks permission to enter. Duncan takes note of the detail internal imaging when Drake shows Fleur drone encounter. He was not aware of that precision and level of detail. ==== Pickup Positioning ==== During the Soyer pickup, the small team stands or kneels on tables. They are close together to fit into the active pickup volume. ==== Active Recall Volume ==== During the Soyer rescue, Drake must quickly redefine the recall volume when the team decides to stand on the tables. A Recall 'port is limited by the pr-eplanned ballast drop and energy to recover Soyer. If the Team stayed standing in water, Drake does not have time to mask out the water around everyone’s feet. The extra water mass in the recall volume negates the 'port. Drake would have to leave someone behind. Standing on the tables let Drake quickly reposition and define the recall "floor". His positioning wasn’t perfect as he took some of the tables and chair, a much smaller mass within the tolerance of the energy budget of the 'ports. 'Porting up part of the ceiling meant the ceiling would fall on the team inside the Dragonstar Chamber at the ships 1 artificial g. A 'port intentionally taking a portion of the ceiling can work by setting the ship artificial g field to zero. The volume would exchange inside the chamber under zero g where it could be dealt with. ===== Dragonstar Rising ===== __**//Dragonstar Rising//**__ intentionally did not clarify the full extent of lance capabilities. Instead, game play based on S-4 or agent provided coordinates meant specific 'port down and / or 'port up locations constrained the mission locations and increased dramatic game play. 'Port coordinates unlimited by Lance “range” and entangled Shards provides greater scenario freedom. ▲ [[:l1:Start]] • [[:l1:History:]] • [[:l1:Locations:]] • [[:l1:Organizations:]] • [[:l1:Personalities:]] • [[:l1:Technology:]]
