====== The Colonial War 2153-2156 ====== {{the-colonial-war-2153-2156.png?512|The Colonial War 2153-2156 (placeholder by ChatGPT)}} The Starguild consolidated its power on Earth in the form of the Starguild Council, a small governing assembly at the Starguild See on the manmade isle of Elysium. Earth’s energy production was dependent on colonial fuel rods, and the Council’s control of that import secured its dominance. But the Council had no equivalent leverage on the far flung and independent colonies. Hoping to secure a stranglehold, the Council sought to extend its control over the sale and maintenance of all interstellar ships. The Council tried to regulate the sale of starships throughout the colonies (2152). The colonies and their independent starship suppliers objected. Neemis Enterprises taking immediate and aggressive action torpedoed peaceful negotiations. The Neemis Enterprises fleet went on the rampage attacking Council friendly assets on its way to Earth. Almost a year later, Neemis Enterprises arrived at Earth and attacked the Starguild Council at Elysium. Only a last-minute business deal (buyoff) stopped Neemis Enterprises from leveling the Starguild See. Having made its point, and having secured a lucrative deal, Neemis Enterprises retired. Mark Heisson used this atrocity to justify formation of the Imperium, an independent military coalition drawn from a military tithe of Starguild members. The Imperium’s first task, eliminate Neemis Enterprises. But assembling this force would take time. Colonial rebels declined to sit idle. The Starguild’s inability to rally a force to deal with Neemis Enterprises spotlighted the Starguild’s weakness. Emboldened, Colonial starforces attacked the Starguild forward base threatening New Eden. This Colonial sneak attack, at a waypoint that would later be named Salk’s Landing, precipitated the Colonial War. Years later, with the Imperium to lead them, Council loyal corporate fleets were able to defeat the colonial fleets forcing the recalcitrant colonies to surrender. The Council secured control and was finally able to, more or less, universally impose its Conventions. The victorious Council modified the Starguild Conventions, expanding the prime tenet that created star-tech, land-tech, and base-tech job classification to divide humanity into castes: Starcaste, Landcaste, and Bondsmen. This mandate was extremely unpopular, particularly in the colonies, and was a major factor contributing to the 2nd Corporate Wars.
